guilty pleasures...

  • Jan. 22nd, 2006 at 7:12 PM

The first player of the game starts with the topic of "5 Guilty Pleasures" and people who get tagged need to write an LJ entry about 5 Guilty Pleasures as well, and state this rule clearly. In the end you need to choose 5 people to be tagged and list their names. I don't feel like tagging anyone...if you feel like confessing your guilty pleasures then go ahead!

1. Antiques Roadshow. I don't know what it is about that show but i watch it all the time...and i mean actually watch it, not that i just have it on as background noise. and i enjoy it. no...i'm not 70 years old. i also need to admit to a real affinity for really gross medical documentaries...fascinating stuff.

2. dark chocolate. the kind that is 70-80% cocao. that stuff is gooood.

3. Oreo milkshakes made with chocolate ice cream. yum yum yum. and the best part is, when you're finished, you get to scoop all of the cold, soft Oreo bits off of the bottom of the cup and eat them with a spoon.

4. afternoon naps. i really really try not to take them but my favorite time to sleep is in the middle of the afternoon. there is just something really cozy about snuggling under the covers at 3:30 PM when everyone else is still hustling and bustling.

5. writing lists. i make lists of everything. they are everywhere. do i use them? half the time, no, but i still make them. i get some sort of strange comfort out of writing things down even if i never look at it again. i consider this a guilty pleasure because it is a complete waste of paper and time, but i do it anyway.

so...what did i do this weekend?

i drove to Dan's on Friday. We went to Wal-Mart and got pizza and beer. after dinner he played Everquest while i watched What Not To Wear (it's how we compromise...he gets to play Everquest and i get to watch some television show that he is completely uninterested in but we're still in the same room and talk to one another). i ended up falling asleep, it's pretty typical for me to be super tired on Fridays. it's annoying but what can you do?

Saturday we got up and drove to Bear's house. there's a little drama around there now because he let a woman move in that no one really approves of. she drinks too much and isn't the best influence on him but she does help him out with the house and everything. there's a good side and a bad side. no one is too happy with it, though. Aunt Cindy, Leslie (Dan's mom), Dan, and i went shopping in Montgomery which was exciting because New York & Co was having a big sale and i got 3 sweaters and a pair of earrings for $35. Later that night Bear took us all out to the officer's club at the airforce base becasue it was prime rib night. the meat was really good, surprisingly. the club was pretty mediocre but with bases going downhill the clubs are going right along with them. it's kind of depressing. Dan and i stayed up late with Leslie and Cindy shootin' the breeze that night and we all ended up drinking too much wine, haha. it was funny.

Sunday we got up and had breakfast and drove back to Pell City. I buckled down and cranked out the next week's science lessons (Heat and Energy is the focus...exciting!). i'm really glad that i don't have to write out long lesson plans anymore, it takes so much less time to do things now! After i got that done and sent out i hugged Dan goodbye and left. it was sad. but he's coming back to Atlanta soon so i try no to let the constant coming and going get to me anymore.

i still have to write out what i'm doing for my reading groups. it shouldn't be too difficult. i follow the same format for all the groups. i just have to alternate the two highest groups and see the lowest group every day. it's really strange...two of the smartest girls in the class who make the best grades (one is even in FOCUS) are in the lowest reading group. they have reading comprehension problems, like they will read something and you will ask them to tell it back to you and they will barely be able to do it. very strange. small stuff they can do, like instructions on worksheets and tests and stuff, but when it comes to reading chapters in books they have a really hard time. i'll have to figure out what i want to do with them.

i also have to start tutoring two students in writing. these kids have no concept of punctuation. i'll have to figure out what i want to do about that. i need to drag out my old textbooks (i have one specifically on teaching punctuation) and see what they say.

so that's that. it's bad that i really don't feel like typing out my reading group stuff. i know what i want to do and my teacher has seen my other stuff and it's all the same. but i have to do it. blah.
